So much going on now I'm on the final push to hand everything in by 23rd May. It's going to be tight but I'll get there. Then we have our exhibitions to organize. One at the Northenden Campus where all the courses exhibit and fashion have their catwalk show. The second is just our end of year show.

I'll be making a design board for my FMP . I need to drop patterns into clothing. Having a go at drawing female figures.
Reflective diary. Am keeping all my reflections and evaluations in one word document and I'll print it out as a booklet for hand-in day. Research Report - outline is OK. Finish first draft by next week. FMP. On track. How am I going to display my pieces? Not decided. Looking at ideas. FMP colours are dull. I agree. They are for Autumn/Winter. I'm going to brighten them up. A brightening-upper. I did using a monoprint circle design and bright watercolours. Pinned it on my board. Everyone liked it - could I make scarves? Yes. Here's a bright and zingy pattern. Went to the opening . Lucienne's daughter, Paula Day, spoke about her mother, her passion for gardening and the inspiration plants gave her. Some lovely textiles on exhibition. I'll be going back again.
Spent a few hours in the print room. Some exciting results.
Working on my FMP. Compiling a Photoshop colour swatch in the Pantone colours I'm using. I printed blocks of each colour and cut into pieces with a guillotine. Lots of little bits left. Destined for recycling ... wait a minute! I can do something with them. Lots of LIve Context, academic writing and research information - there's always lots of this on any HE course. Just got to put the fun bits on one side and knuckle down. Sent off for fabric swatches from a number of fabric printing companies. One of my final outcomes is to get one of my patterns printed on a fabric length. Below are a few pictures of what I've been doing. Working on press pack including business cards - still some way to go. World Global Style Network (WGSN). Chose the style for my patterns - Dark Wonder, Strange Nature - for Autumn/Winter 2018/2019. Josef Franks exhibition.Josef Frank is one of the artists I am researching for my Final Major Project (FMP) so I booked a ticket before going to London. He was an artist inspired by nature. Many of his patterns include birds, butterflies, trees, plants and flowers.
Quote from Vogue magazine in an article Celebrating Josef Frank. “Repetition” which dictated that repeat patterns are calming – the brain can find comfort when concentrating on patterns. As a pattern person I found this extremely interesting and I have looked at patterns in a different way since. Loved it. Textiles, furniture, wallpaper and watercolours. He was trained as an architect so it was no surprise to see he liked painting buildings. The Design Library. WOW. Pattern heaven. Textile paradise.
John Soames Museum. Amazing house. Left as it was when he died. Tate Modern. Robert Rauschenberg exhibition. “Robert Rauschenberg is America’s Leonardo” –an extract from Tate Modern’s exhibition information. I had never heard of him but became intrigued as I read the exhibition information and explored the Rauschenberg foundation website. The sheer variety of his work, the bright colours and the muted colours, his 3D pieces, small pieces, huge pieces, mixed media, photography and performance art. The unexpected and amusing piece was a huge tank filled with bubbling, chattering mud which spat bits out now and again. There was a warning not to stand too close. No photography allowed so no images to show you. Went according to plan (almost) and managed to do quite a lot including meeting my sister and niece for lunch, having a tapas and Flamenco evening and only getting on the wrong tube once. Anyway, to ART which is why we went. Got to Euston just before lunch , checked into our hotel and then off on our first adventure. Design Museum. Thought there was an exhibition of Lucienne Day's textiles. No. Some of her husband's pieces were on display. Lots of interesting objects, machines, furniture, computers, phones and graphics. Trip down Memory Lane, whatever your age. Next. The V&A. Islamic gallery. Patterns, patterns, patterns. Surrounded by patterns. Fabulous. Ceramics, textiles, carpets, tiles and maps. |
