My two boards. Not brilliant and certainly wouldn't pass on a fashion course. Two ladies have said they like the garments and would buy some of the styles. I have learned a lot from this exercise and, most importantly, identified areas of weakness and the actions I need to take to improve.
Stress levels stratospheric.
1. £300+ to get four meters of fabric printed with my designs.
2. Cannot work out what my pattern will look like on fabric
3, Number crunching was too much for me so I have abandoned fabric printing
Printing on fabric is not one of my final outcomes but was a "nice to have".
May
Two days in the print room. Have some exciting results.

Serious stuff now
Decided to use Strange Nature from the Dark Wonder series from WGSNs colours for Autumn/Winter 2018/19.Chose six of the ten colours to work with and compiled a Photoshop swatch
Used these colours to design patterns which I then dropped into garments I've drawn. For my final outcome I will have professional images but, for now, I'm just playing, exploring, experimenting and learning.

February continued - bitter melon exploration - bought some more.
I also obtained bitter melon products - dried slices, tea and ground melon. I did try the tea and found it to be palatable but I don't think I'm going to be drinking it regularly.
I photographed it whole and then cut it up and photographed again. Used a macro lens to get some really good close up images of all the products and used (not very successfully) a microscope. More drawings. More sketches. More stamping.

February
I had to made a very hard decision. What shall I take forward? I can't use all my material even though I have some lovely drawings that I could make some patterns from. I went back through my sketchbook and decided to concentrate on the bitter melon which I think has the most potential.
January. February - Sorry for shouting at you - I can't undo the bold
Bought exotic fruit and vegetables: photographed, cut up, stamped, collaged, drawn and painted. Did some colour studies, extracted some shapes, designed some patterns.
16th May 2017. I have kept my sketchbooks and reflective diary up-to-date so will just be publishing a monthly precise here.
My chosen fruit and veg
My FMP - My inspiration is exotic fruit and vegetables. 27/01/17
I have made a start by buying a selection of fruit and vegetables - physalis (cape gooseberries), guava, chow chow, kiwi (OK. Maybe not so exotic) and persimmon (Sharon fruit). From my drawings I will produce a variety of designs, select a small number and take them forward to my final outcomes.
Physalis. I remember these as a child- chinese lanterns - beautiful bright red, almost heart-shaped flowers hanging down in great profusion. Probably not edible though. I've done quite a lot of drawings and have dried some of the leaves which I will laminate and put in my sketch book. The centre image was taken with an SLR camera with a macro lens. I haven't mastered this yet so need to practice a lot more.
No title as yet but I do know what my project outcomes will be.
Nothing like doing things back to front!
1. A collection of commercial surface pattern designs aimed at high-end, high-street ladies fashion. This will include two to three patterns in four colour ways for Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2018 related to WGSN trends
2. An art piece or wall hanging influenced by my research for our end of year exhibition.
3. A portfolio containing design sheets, professionally presented designs and a reflective journal which will be used to develop ideas for my work
4. Colour mixing exercises using red, blue and yellow.
Related to my research project and my career aspirations - to become a surface pattern designer.
Quite a challenge.
